Leicester City 3 – West Ham 1

Leicester City made a fine start to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s reign as manager, beating West Ham 3-1 at home in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Leicester started well and took a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes. When Bilal El Cannous cut through the visitors’ defence and Jamie Vardy broke into the penalty area before tilting his header into the far post.

The home side almost took another lead in the eighth minute. With Viktor Christiansen feeding Vardy into the box before firing a left-footed shot that Lukasz Fabianski parried wide. 

In the -11th minute, West Ham also had a good chance.

Jarrod Bowen had a chance to spin with his left foot. But Mads Hermansen had to dive and push the ball away.

The visitors created another threat two minutes later when Danny Ings’ header hit James Justin and bounced off the post. Max Kilman tried to follow up but Jannik Vestergaard blocked it. Leicester escaped.

West Ham had another chance in the 27th minute. When Mohammed Kudus crossed from the left. And hit a high cross to the far post where Tomas Soucek headed the ball but it went wide.

The Hammers continued to press the Foxes and had another chance in the 35th minute. When Edson Alvarez crossed from the right into the penalty area for Bowen to hit at the near post. But Hermansen had to slam it behind. From a corner kick, Carlos Soler picked up the ball in front of the penalty area and fired a right-footed shot that just missed the post.

At the end of the first half, West Ham pressed hard but still could not equalize. At the end of the first half, Leicester led 1-0, but the visitors had 20 chances to shoot.

In the second half, in the 50th minute, Leicester had a chance to increase their lead. Shufal headed the ball clear to Vardy, who headed it unexpectedly. But the ball did not go into the frame.

Leicester made it 2-0 in the 61st minute.

In the final minute, Leicester made it 3-0 on a counter-attack. And it ended with a near-post shot from substitute Patson Daka, who scored his first Premier League goal of the season. 

In stoppage time, West Ham managed to break the deadlock through Niklas Füllkrug, but that was it. The game ended with Leicester winning 3-1 over West Ham. Giving new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy a winning start in front of the Foxes and moving the team four points clear of the danger zone.
